\nFentanyl (Item No. 14719) is an agonist of the μ-opioid receptor (Ki = 0.39 nM) that less effectively binds the κ-opioid receptor (Ki = 255 nM) and does not act at the δ-opioid receptor.{25533} Although it is used for anesthesia and chronic pain management, it is abused recreationally and, thus, regulated as a Schedule II controlled substance in the United States.{20880,23389,24744} β-Hydroxythiofentanyl is an analog of fentanyl in which the phenyl ring of the phenethyl group is replaced by a thiophene ring, and there is a hydroxyl group β to the nitrogen.{25316} This product is intended for forensic and research applications.
